Aubeterre-sur-Dronne

High on the hilltop, Aubeterre is an absolute gem. One of the "Les Plus Beaux Villages" (most beautiful villages) of France.

The village has many artist's studios. Also to be found are potters and glass blowers. The puppet theatre is very popular during the summer holidays.

The lively village square is the perfect place to relax and enjoy an bottle of the local wines in one of the many bars and restaurants.

The fascinating monolithic (subterranean) church of St. Jean carved out of the cliff is a must see. With a 20m high underground nave and necropolis containing over 100 sarcophagi.

The village has several excellent restaurants, for a true French gastronmique experience a visit to the Hostellerie-du-Perigord is a must - Chef/Owner Fabrice Morel is constantly pushing the boundaries of French cuisine.

What many people visit for is the river beach, for safe swimming, diving, tennis, snacks and canoe hire.
